European cable company TKF: Submarine cable contract +1!

Dutch energy company Luxcara has signed a contract with Dutch cable manufacturer Twentsche Kabelfabriek BV (TKF) to supply interarray cable systems for the Waterkant offshore wind farm project in the German North Sea.

Under the agreement, TKF will design, manufacture, test and deliver 130 km of 66 kV aluminum-core submarine cables and accessories to connect the wind farm units to Amprion’s converter platform. The cables will be produced at TKF’s carbon-neutral facility in Emshaven, the Netherlands, reflecting the project’s sustainable manufacturing footprint.

The Waterkant offshore Wind Farm is located in Block N-6.7 of the German Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately 90 km from the island of Borkum, adjacent to several existing offshore wind farm clusters. As the winning project of the German offshore wind power auction in 2023, its planned installed capacity is 296 MW, and 16 18.5 MW offshore wind turbines produced by China Mingyang Intelligent will be deployed, and the wind turbine installation project has been contracted by Norwegian company Havfram in 2024.

The project is planned to be connected to the German national grid in 2028, and is expected to provide clean electricity for about 400,000 households after production, helping to achieve Germany’s energy transition goals. The signing of the cable contract marks a key step forward in the infrastructure development of the Waterkant project, with the participating parties progressing on schedule to ensure that the project is connected to the grid on time.
